Over the course of watching The Big Breakfast I noticed theme tune changes every few years. Here's a list of the theme tunes that I've heard:
1992-1996: The original theme tune.
1996-1997: This is the one I remember from when I first started watching. Compared to the original, this theme tune feels slightly more jazzier, but it's the ending which is most different. Visually, the titles that went with it didn't have the house zoom-up I've seen in older videos, but focused on 'THE BIG BREAKFAST' logo in the pool area, then turning around to face the new house.
1997-2001: I think this is my favourite theme tune. The visuals have foods you associate with breakfast such as toast, oranges, bacon, etc flying into the Big Breakfast house, making it explode into the logo! Meanwhile the music was a more pop version of the original theme tune, just perfect timing as well, right slap bang in the middle of Britpop madness.
2001: This is the last theme tune and opening title I remember. Dramatically different to what it had been previously, it featured people doing morning things, such as hitting the snooze button (haven't we all done that!) brushing your teeth, eating an orange, and standing behind the TV so it looks like you have
a supermodel body?!?
Well, that's what was in it anyway! The last scene involved a man submerging into the water of a bath he was soaking in, only to re-appear as a woman, whilst the new Big Breakfast logo rolls up like bubbles. The theme tune had a much more electro-dance type feel to it, it felt like a completely different show to me, as another big relaunch in 2001 made me feel that the Big Breakfast I knew had long gone, and I stopped watching after this.
Does anybody remember any other opening titles/theme tunes?[/i] |

There was one more variation of the main theme, in 2000. It was a drum & bass style remix, by The Artful Dodger. A new set of visuals accompanied it. It lasted for about a year, or just less.
Plus the visuals got a complete change very soon after the failed 2001 relaunch, with the idea that human size (or BIG) breakfast items were making their way to the house via various modes of transport.
You've covered pretty much all of the rest. There were one or two others, such as christmas variations, and the occasional slight re-editing / re-arranging (such as an updated house fly-in sequence in 1998, to match the new look to the house).
The vast majority of them can be found on YouTube. And you can download the music from the BowLocks site. |

| Towards the end, there was a day when the BB went upmarket, for one day only we had 'The Large Breakfast' with it's own set of titles and re-arrangement of the theme... anyone got them...? I know that I have on my old windows me machine. |

| I did have The Large Breakfast on Bow Locks... I can't remember why now but something went wrong and I lost it. If anyone has a copy I could put back online I'd be very grateful. |

There was one in 1996 which had a Star Trek twist. A pre-titles sketch featured Cheggars, Zoe Ball, Peter Smith, a scattering of crew members and possibly Zig and Zag, as characters from the original Star Trek series. The set, replicating the bridge of the enterprise, was actually of a rather surprisingly good quality, and not dis-similar to the later set for Alien Alarm.
Then after the sketch, the usual title sequence rolled but with Trekified BB music and cut-in sequences of a cast list of the BB hosts as Star Trek characters (I think Cheggars was Kirk, and Peter Smith was Spock.)
I know some gems have surfaced on YouTube and such over the years, but I'd be very surprised to see that ever turn up. This description just might be as close as you'll get, for now. |

I didn't like how they gave up on Christmas titles towards the end and just used a fairly badly edited version of the original.
IIRC for 1997-1999 they just used the regular titles with some fake snow and a few jingle bells. Shame they never made a version with Christmassy things flying into the house as that would have worked really well - especially when IIRC they had versions with The Oscars flying into the house and one for the World Cup too in 1998.
Back to 1996 and there were three or four versions of the new titles. The first as mentioned in the opening post at the back of the house, the second (from Day 2) at the front, using shots taken from ground - and then a third filmed properly with the fly-in to the house. At some point too they changed the endcap to have the logo appear on a loaf of bread rather than just a blue version of the 1992 ending.
I still think it's a shame they never updated the titles more radically in 1996, using scenes from the brilliant break stings in the first half of the titles rather than continuing with the 1992 titles.
And back to 2000 there were two versions of the Artful Dodger titles, one slightly longer than the other. I'm pretty sure both included Mutton Chops/Morris Dancing and Johnny as Elvis, but I think the other scene in each was different. One was a paper boy becoming paparazzi, can't recall the other. |

Oh yeah, I seem to recall that the world cup 98 titles had footballs, the world cup trophy and other such things flying towards the yellow house. And crowd cheers etc.
I don't know the ins and outs of the technology, but something recorded in 1992 would have started to look somewhat dated by 1996, due to the ever changing stardards of recording equipment in the TV industry. So when the original titles were re-edited to incorporate shots of the new house, there was a quality and standard clash which stood out a mile, making it look rather odd as it cut to the new house sequence. Aside from that, they should have done a new set of visuals anyway. They changed EVERYTHING else. And another thing, the end bit where the camera pans across the breakfast table was very visibly filmed in the old kitchen, with the fried eggs wallpaper.
Little things like that created a clash between the old and new. Here we had a show desperate to reinvent itself, but with echoes of the decidedly better past constantly haunting it.
I think that the makers of nearly all TV shows have a tendency to underestimate the negative impact that these apperently minor details can have. I reckon that the audience is alot more attentative to these things than is typically assumed. Look at comments on YouTube clips of TV shows, or DS forums etc and you'll start to learn that many people really do notice the tinyest of details. |

Am pretty sure I've got the entire Large Breakfast episode on tape. I'll have a hunt through my old VHS collection tomorrow and try and find it. |

True, the Christmas titles/stings looked incredibly dated when they re-used them from the late 90's onwards. |

| Was the ending of the original titles filmed in the actual kitchen? I'm sure as the camera pans down the table you see a bit of white where the fried egg wall paper ends as if it's not on the entire wall. |

Hhhmm, you've got me thinking, now. I seem to recall seeing that very same sequence in the pilot episode. So, maybe not. The coin's in the air on that one. |
